At this stage of development, the baby is fully formed and the anatomy can be accurately seen and assessed.

Detail such as the heart, Kidneys, Bladder, Stomach can be seen.

The limbs and spine are also clearly seen and you can see the scan as it happens on the flat screen monitor. Whilst the scan is primarily a medical test, the Sonographer will always take time to explain everything to you and answer any questions. This scan should be a bonding experience and we don't rush through it but allow you to see your baby.

Other structures are assessed including the Placenta and umbilical cord.

Standard measurements of the baby are taken to check the size of your baby.

At the end of the scan, you will receive a report and any relevant images to place in your maternity notes.

Most babies have entirely normal anatomy, but should an abnormality be found it would be discussed in full with you. With your permission, your GP or Midwife would be contacted on your behalf with the findings.

The appointment is for 30 minutes and includes up to 6 Black and white glossy prints.
